Managing Contacts in Enhanced WebMail

Learn how to add, create, and edit contacts in Enhanced WebMail.

Solution

Enhanced WebMail offers two ways to manage your contacts. You can either use the Contacts column, or the Universal Contact Manager (UCM) which is accessible from the Advanced tab.

Before beginning, make sure you are signed in to Enhanced WebMail.

  1. Go to webmail.cox.net.
  2. Enter your User ID and Password.
  3. Click the Enhanced WebMail radio button.
  4. Click Sign In.

Importing and exporting contacts features are only available in UCM, accessed from the Advanced tab.

Managing Contacts Using the Contacts Column 

To manage your contacts using the Contacts column, follow the steps below.

  1. Hover your mouse over CONTACTS in the upper right corner of the page to view the drop-down arrow.
  2. Click on the drop-down arrow to see the options New Contact and New Group.

  3. Click New Contact.

    Result: The Contacts column displays to the left of your Inbox.

  1. Place your cursor next to first name, then click in the gray box to enter the contact's first name.

    Result: A field displays next to the text.

  2. Repeat this process to enter all the information in the Contacts column.

    Note: The plus signs allow you to add other information, such as a work or personal email, along with several types of phone numbers, and even Instant Message (IM) accounts.

  3. Once you have entered all the contact's information, click Save.

    Result: The contact you just created displays in your contact list on the left.

To edit a contact, click on the arrow next to the envelope icon to display the options Edit details and View details.

Note: You can also manage your contacts through the Advanced tab at the bottom of the CONTACTS column.

Manage Contacts Using UCM 

This easy-to-navigate interface is an alternative to the normal contact list. To add a new contact using UCM, or to add an existing contact to a group, follow these steps.

Note: You must have at least one contact already added in the Contacts column before you can access this feature.

  1. Click CONTACTS.

  2. At the bottom of the Contacts column, click Advanced.

    Result: The Universal Contact Manager window displays.

To create a contact, use the following steps.

  1. At the bottom of your UCM contacts list, click the Create Contact button, and fill in the fields provided.

  2. Click Save.

    Note: You can view your contacts in a List or Card view.

To add a contact to a group, use the following steps.

  1. Click the checkbox next to the contact.
  2. Click Add to Group.

To edit a contact, use the following steps.

  1. Click the contact name in your UCM Inbox.
  2. Click Edit.

  3. Make changes, and then click Save.

Export and Import Contacts 

To export contacts out of, or import contacts into Enhanced WebMail, you must use UCM. To do so, follow the steps below.

To export contacts out of Enhanced WebMail, use the following steps.

  1. At the top of the UCM window, click Settings.
  2. Click the Export contacts button.
  3. Choose one of the the mail applications listed in the drop-down menu.

    Note: You can only export to Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. From either one of those programs you can export to another email client.
     
  4. Click the Export button.

    Result: The File Download pop-up window displays.
     
  5. Click Save.
  6. Choose a location to save your file.
  7. Click Save.

    Result: The saved file can now be used to import to an email client.

To import contacts into Enhanced WebMail, use the following steps.

  1. At the top of the UCM window, click Settings.
  2. Click the Import Contacts button.
  3. Choose the location from which to import the contacts.

    Note: To import contacts from an email account such as Yahoo, choose vCard then follow the instructions below the menu. You must first export your contacts from that client as a .vcf file before importing them into WebMail. See your email provider for details.
     
  4. Follow the instructions below the menu, then click Next.
  5. Preview your contacts and wait for them to be imported.
