Solution

There are many features in Classic WebMail to help you send and receive messages. This guide explains what they are and how to use them.

Before beginning, make sure you are signed in to Classic WebMail.

  1. Go to webmail.cox.net.
  2. Enter User ID and Password.
  3. Click the Classic WebMail radio button.
  4. Click Sign In.

Blocking External Images 

Images can be embedded in emails. A common example is when an online store sends you an email message. The images are sometimes used to track your behavior for marketing purposes. Follow the steps below to change when external images can display.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings.
  2. From the Settings window, click Privacy.

  1. Determine which option you want to set. You can block all external images when viewing messages, or you can choose not to block any images.
  2. Click OK.

Changing Default Name 

To change the name that displays when you send an email, follow the steps below.

From the Webmail Inbox, click Settings.

  1. From the Settings window, click Preferences.

    Result: The Preferences window displays.
     
  2. In the first empty field next to From Name, enter the name you want as your default name.
  3. Click OK.

Entries Per Page 

To set the number of pages that display on each page of your message results, follow the steps below.

From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings.

  1. From the Settings window, under Address Book Settings, click Entries Per Page.
  2. Choose the number of messages you want to display on each page.
  3. Click OK.

Filtering Messages 

To filter your messages, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings.
  2. From the Settings window, under Mail Management, click Message Filters.
  3. Click New Filter.

  1. Enter the filter name.
  2. Next to Filter, decide how you want to filter your messages.

    Note: To add a new line of filter options, click Add Operation.
     
  3. Next to Action, determine how to handle the filtered message. You can discard it, send it a folder you created in advance, or forward it to another email account.
  4. Click OK.

List View 

To set the view of your message lists, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings.
  2. From the Settings window, click Preferences.

  1. From the Preferences window, scroll down to Message List View, and then click the boxes next to the items you want to display each time you open your Inbox.
  2. Click OK.

Message Capacity Warning 

To set a warning when your Inbox is about to reach capacity, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings.
  2. From the Settings window, click Preferences.

  1. From the Preferences window, scroll down to Set Warning.
  2. Determine how full your mailbox should get before the system warns you that it is almost full.
  3. Enter a percentage in the box provided.
  4. Click OK.

Messages per Page 

To set the number of messages you see in your Inbox, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings
  2. Click Preferences.

  1. From the Preferences window, scroll down to Messages Per Page and enter the number of email messages you want to display on one page.
  2. Click OK.

Reply Separator 

To set your message reply separator, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings
  2. From the Settings window, click Preferences.

  1. From the Preferences window, scroll down to Reply Separator and choose the option of your choice.
  2. Click OK.

Return Receipts 

To set your return receipt options, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings
  2. From the Settings window, click Return Receipts.

  1. Make your choices from the options provided.
  2. Click OK.

Signature 

To create a email signature to place on all your outgoing mail, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings
  2. From the Settings window, click Signature.

  1. Enter the information you want to appear at the end of your email messages.
  2. If you want the system to add the signature in all your messages, place a checkmark in the box by Auto Insert.
  3. Click OK.

Spam 

To remove spam and send a message to Cox about it, follow the steps below.

To manually tag email as spam, complete the following steps.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, put a check next to the message you want to tag as spam.

    Note: You do not have to open the message to tag it as spam.
     
  2. Click the Spam button.

    Result: A warning displays telling you the spam will be reported to Cox.
     
  3. Click OK.

    Result: The message is sent to the Cox Abuse Team.

To automatically filter spam, complete the following steps. 

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Settings.
  2. From the Settings window, click SpamBlocker Settings.
  3. Decide whether to delete all spam, send it to a folder, or tag it to receive it in your Inbox.
  4. Click OK.

To move a message out of the spam folder, complete the following steps.

Note: If in Step 1 you chose to delete all spam, it is not in your spam folder.

  1. From the Spam folder, put a check next to the message you want to keep.
  2. Click This is Not Spam.
  3. Click OK to agree to move the message to your Inbox.

Using Spell Check 

To check your spelling before you send your email message, follow the steps below.

  1. From the WebMail Inbox, click Compose.
  2. Create your email message.

  1. After writing your message, click Spell Check.
  2. As the spell checker reviews the words in your message, decide whether to accept the suggestion by clicking Change or Change All to correct all misspellings of the same word. You can also Ignore the suggestions.
  3. Click OK.
