A disaster reinsurance company surprisingly found itself at high risk of facing disaster. The company’s managed services provider (MSP) put the company in this precarious position by delivering inadequate IT services and support, resulting in costly business disruptions. Being in the insurance business, the company put a priority on solutions supporting Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery and called on Cox Business for help.
About the Client
Our client is an insurance company that provides insurance to other insurance companies. The company covers unpredictable events like hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, and other natural disasters. The company has more than 75 employees at its Bermuda headquarters and various international offices.
Challenge
Our client struggled with glitches in its MSP’s virtual desktop infrastructure, which forced them to reboot IT systems regularly, dramatically decreasing productivity and reducing the quality of support they could deliver to their customers in turn. The MSP took weeks to set up licenses and configurations and wasn’t transparent about its processes and infrastructure, obscuring the status of implementations and the details of its service delivery. In addition, the MSP lacked the technical aptitude and knowledge of critical applications to offer an SLA sufficient for the reinsurer’s needs.
Solution
To address our client’s challenges, Cox Business engaged RapidScale, a Cox Business company, to deliver managed IT solutions with expert support and competitive Service Level Agreements (SLAs). RapidScale deployed a range of managed cloud solutions with an overarching goal of business continuity and disaster recovery. These solutions include:
- Microsoft 365 to provide employees with always-on “work anywhere” access to cloud-based applications and collaboration tools.
- Desktop as a Service (DaaS) to enable secure remote and mobile work while streamlining business IT support requirements.
- SD-WAN for centralized management of network resources, including diverse broadband circuits for redundancy and failover.
- Cloud security services, such as anti-malware, firewalls, web and email security, and network monitoring, to thwart downtime from cyberattacks.
- Backup as a Service (BaaS) to protect company data with incremental and block-level backup.
- Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) for continuous data protection and critical storage-based replication and recovery.
Results
Cox Business delivered a streamlined and agile IT environment, including a virtual desktop solution that enables remote workers in multiple geographic locations throughout the U.S. and Amsterdam. Additionally, we empowered our client to securely host hybrid multitenant and private cloud environments and support high-performance computing (HPC) and non-HPC workloads. Our cybersecurity services addressed the reinsurer’s concerns about data breaches, compliance requirements, employee privacy, cyberattacks, and other security threats.
Cox Business’s technical capabilities and customer support, backed by certified engineers and cloud experts, inspired the reinsurer’s confidence, as did our guided, hand-holding approach to implementation and migration.
Our client also appreciated having one point of contact for sourcing and managing their IT solutions, rather than requiring them to manage several vendors and support teams. They also liked Cox Business’s flexible workload and application migration options, co-management, and support models. Additionally, they valued our solutions’ scalability, which enables them to expand as needed.
