A CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) block is a contiguous group of IP addresses. Cox Business sells CIDR blocks in groups of 16 or 32 IP addresses. Because some of the addresses are overhead addresses, only 13 or 29 addresses are usable within the CIDR blocks respectively.
- A single CIDR block is assigned to you from a static IP pool associated with the Cox network.
- No configuration on the modem is required
- A Cox Business technician supplies the following for the LAN devices.
- Addresses
- Gateway address
- Subnet mask
- DNS
Note: You must configure static IPs on the devices connected to the modem. The connected devices do not automatically get an IP address like a dynamic IP assigned via DHCP. The CIDR block can also be used to provide IP addresses from a DHCP server on your router.
Use Case
Multiple static IP addresses within the same subnet are needed to connect a switch or router and routing multiple devices through the modem.
- Connect a switch and statically assign the IP addresses to devices, or use your DHCP server to dynamically assign the IP addresses within theLAN.
- If a larger block of IP addresses is needed, then consider Cox Optical Internet service.
