The Cisco DPC3848 is a DOCSIS 3.0 gateway modem.

  • After the cable modem is successfully registered on the network, the POWER and DS indicators illuminate continuously to indicate that the wireless gateway is online and fully operational.

The Cisco DPC3848 has the following ports available on the back of the device.

  • USB Connector - Connects the gateway to a USB printer or other USB device
  • ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet port on your computer
  • WiFi ON/OFF - The WiFi ON/OFF button is disabled on this device
  • RESET - Used to reset the gateway if necessary
  • CABLE - Connects to the cable wall outlet
  • POWER - Connects the gateway to the power adapter
  • MAC Address Label - Displays the device MAC address

MAC addresses are a unique set of 12 characters containing both letters and numbers. The first six characters of the address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.

  • The S/N is the serial number of the DPC3848 gateway.
  • The CM MAC is the MAC address of the DPC3848 gateway.

Troubleshooting

Modem Lights


The lights indicate the current status of your gateway. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

1 - PowerOffNo power. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the gateway. If the cable is OK and the gateway modem reset does not work, contact Customer Support.

OnThe Gateway is receiving data from the cable network.

4 -ONLINEOnThe Gateway is registered on the network and is fully operational.
OffThe Gateway is not on the network.
5 -ETHERNET 1-4OnA device is connected to the Ethernet port but, no data is being sent to or from the gateway.
OffThere is not a device connected to the Ethernet port.
BlinkingA device is connected to the Ethernet port and data is being transferred between the connected device and the gateway.
6 - 2.4GOffThe wireless access point has been disabled.
BlinkingThe wireless access point is enabled and operational.
Fast BlinkingData is being transferred between a connected device and the gateway.
7 - 5GOffThe wireless access point has been disabled.
BlinkingThe wireless access point is enabled and operational.
Fast BlinkingData is being transferred between a connected device and the gateway.
8 - WPSOffThe wireless setup is not active.
BlinkingIndicates that a new wireless setup is activated to add a new WPS client to the wireless network.
