Click the link below to see more information on a topic, or continue reading for general information.

This remote offers some of the latest features:

  • Aim free control
    • Uses radio frequency (RF), which is more efficient than traditional infrared (IR) to extend battery life
    • Works when paired with a Contour receiver
    • Pairs to the receiver through menu
  • TV power, volume, muting, and input control
  • Audio device power, volume, and muting control
  • All Power button turns on the receiver, TV, and audio device at the same time, and turn off TVs and audio devices

Note: The All Power button does not turn off the Contour receivers.

  • Automatic amber backlight

This remote works with Contour only. Contour does not support third-party remotes.

Setting Up The Remote Control

Use the table below to walk customers through programming and pairing their remote.

Action Steps
Program for TV or audio device

Trying to add a third device will delete one or both programmed devices.

  1. With the device and receiver on, press and hold the Setup button on the remote for three seconds, until the red LED on the remote turns green.
  2. Enter the five-digit code for the device.

Result: The LED blinks green twice. If it blinks red then green, repeat steps 1-2.

  3. Press the Volume Up or Volume Down button.
  4. If the volume does not change, repeat the above steps with the next code.
  5. Verify the TV Power / All Power and Mute buttons control the programmed device. If not, repeat these steps with the next code.

If none of the listed codes work, try the automatic code search steps below.

Use automatic code search to find TV or audio device code
  1. With the receiver and TV or audio device on, press and hold the Setup button on the remote for three seconds, until the red LED on the remote turns green.
  2. Do one of the following.
    • For a TV, enter 9-9-1.
    • For an audio device, enter 9-9-2.
  3. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly until the TV or device turns off. Wait about one second between each press.
  4. When the TV or device turns off, press the Setup button.
  5. On the Cox remote, press the TV Power button to turn the TV back on, or the All Power button to turn the audio device back on.
Clear programmed devices to add new devices
  1. Press and hold the Setup button on the Cox remote for three seconds, until the red LED on the remote turns green.
  2. Enter 9-8-1.

Result: The LED blinks green twice and all devices are cleared from the remote.
Pair with receiver

Important: When paired with a receiver, the remote will not control any other receivers in the home. To use the remote with a different receiver, unpair the remote.

  1. Ensure the following:
    • Batteries are installed in the remote.
    • Your TV is on and set to the input for the Contour receiver.
    • Your receiver is on.
  2. Press and hold the Setup button on the Cox remote for three seconds, until the red LED on the remote turns green.
  3. Press the Contour button.

Result: The LED on the remote flashes.

  4. Do one of the following:
    • Follow the pairing instructions displayed on the TV and enter the three-digit code
    • Press the Contour button again and repeat until the instructions display. Then, enter the three-digit code.

The remote may attempt to pair with other compatible receivers within 50 feet. Each press of the Contour button tells the remote to change receivers.

Result: The receiver and remote are paired.

Unpair the remote

When not paired, the remote uses an IR signal only and line-of-sight is needed to control a receiver.

  1. Press and hold the Setup button on the Cox remote for three seconds, until the red LED turns green.
  2. Enter 9-8-1.

Result: The LED blinks green twice and the remote is no longer paired with the receiver.

Action Steps
Check remote battery
  1. Press and hold the Setup button on the Cox remote for three seconds, until the red LED on the remote turns green.
  2. Enter 9-9-9.

Result: The remote blinks to indicate battery status.

  3. Use the following table to determine if the batteries need to be replaced.

Troubleshoot not controlling TV or audio device

TVs and audio devices are controlled with IR only and always require line-of-sight. First, ensure there is a direct line of sight between the remote and the device.

  1. Ensure the remote is programmed for the device.
  2. Check the remote battery status.
  3. Verify the device is connected to power, and the power strip or switched outlet is on, if applicable.
Troubleshoot TV audio control not responding to long presses Some IR codes only partially work for a TV. If the volume control only changes one step at a time or does not slide up or down with long presses of the volume buttons, try a different code for the TV.
Troubleshoot latency or receiver unresponsive to button presses

A brief delay or latency of a few seconds is within the normal operation. If the delay is more than about 5 seconds, continue troubleshooting and escalate if unresolved.

  1. Press the Contour button, and proceed according to the LED color.
  2. Unpair and pair the remote, if you have not already.
  3. Perform a Factory Reset as follows:
    1. Press and hold the Setup button on the Cox remote for three seconds, until the red LED on the remote turns green.
    2. Enter 9-8-1.

Result: The LED blinks green twice to indicate the remote has been reset.

  4. Reprogram the remote for the TV and audio device. The Factory Reset erases these codes.

Remote LED Indicator

The remote LED blinks when a command is sent to any device, and during setup and programming.

The color of the LED indicates whether the remote is operating in IR or RF mode, as shown in the table below. In paired RF mode, the remote blinks twice - once when a command is sent, and again when the receiver confirms receipt.

LED Color Status Action
Green, green A command was sent and received in RF mode. No action is required, the remote is paired to the receiver. If there is a latency of more than 5 seconds, unpair and re-pair the remote and receiver.
Green, red A command was sent in RF mode, but the receiver did not confirm. Unpair and re-pair the remote and receiver.
Red A command was sent in IR mode. The LED blinks red once for all TV and audio device commands. If the remote LED blinks red after a command to the receiver, such as pressing the GUIDE button, the remote is in IR mode. Unpair and re-pair the remote and receiver for RF operation.
