A Speed Test is a tool you can use to help understand your Internet performance. Most speed tests demonstrate how long it takes to download and upload data across many elements of the connection, including the Cox network, the public Internet, the network the speed test service is using, and your home network. In addition to download and upload speeds, some speed tests also include ping, latency, jitter, and packet loss. Running a speed test can be useful as an estimate of quality of your Internet connection.
The location of the speed test server is also important, not just how far it is from you but the path from the Cox network to the selected server.
Third party speed tests conducted off of the Cox network may not provide the most accurate representation of the performance of the Cox network. The results from some third party speed tests are more reliable than others and reliability can vary from location to location. The speed test infrastructure is made up of hardware, software, and network capacity, which can vary for a single provider.
To understand performance of the Cox network, we recommend using the Internet Speed Check Tool available at https://www.cox.com/business/internet/learn/speed-test.html. The Cox Business Internet Speed Test Tool eliminates many factors outside of Cox's control and provides better insight into the performance of Cox's network.
Notes:
Regardless of the speed test site you use, many things can impact speed test results, which include the following.
