Retaining Functionality of Gateway for Other Devices

Details

A static IP address can be assigned to one of the devices and retain the routing functionality of the gateway for other devices

  • Does not use NAT and port forwarding for the statically assigned device
  • Using the gateway in mixed mode, a port can be configured by Cox to pass through the static IP address.

Note: The mixed mode settings can only be used by Cox technicians.

The remainder of the gateway performs as normal, using a dynamically assigned IP address on the WAN interface. There is minimal configuration on the gateway for the use of the Static IP address.

  • No port forwarding
  • Use of all the routing and WiFi functionality of the gateway without the need to purchase additional routing equipment.

Note
: This configuration uses two IP addresses, one dynamic IP for the gateway itself and one passed through for the statically assigned device.
