How Do I Get Low-Cost Internet?

There are still ways to get low cost internet service from Cox, even now that the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) has ended.

More than 23 million households benefited from the federal program, which provided eligible households with monthly discounts on their internet service and ended in June, 2024.

If you’re wondering — “Now what?” — know that Cox offers several low cost internet options. Here’s an overview of affordable home internet and mobile service from Cox:

How to Get Affordable Internet

ConnectAssist is perfect for households on a budget that use the internet for working and learning from home, streaming video, email and social networks.

  • Cost: $30 a month.

  • Who's Eligible: ConnectAssist is available to those who qualify for at least one government assistance program — including Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, Pell Grant and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). ConnectAssist has no minimum term period requirements or early termination fees, and doesn't require a credit check or deposit.

  • Service: It connects up to five devices and includes unlimited monthly data and access to 4 million wifi hotspots. It provides up to 100 Mbps download speeds and includes free, self-installation.

Low-Cost Internet for School Families

The Connect2Compete plan is for families who have at least one K-12 student and are eligible for certain government programs. Similar to ConnectAssist, it's meant for families who use the internet for working and learning from home, streaming video, email and social networks.

  • Cost: $9.95 a month, with no credit check or deposit required, and no early termination fee.

  • Who's Eligible: The family must qualify for at least one government assistance program (National School Lunch, SNAP, TANF, Head Start, WIC, or public housing).

  • Service: The plan connects up to five devices and includes unlimited monthly data and access to 4 million wifi hotspots. It provides up to 100 Mbps download speeds and includes free, self-installation.

Prepaid Internet Plan

StraightUp Internet is a prepaid, month-to-month plan that can be used for working and learning from home, streaming video, email and social networks.

  • Cost: $50 a month, with no extra taxes or fees.

  • Who's Eligible: This plan is open to everyone without need for a credit check or deposit, and has no minimum requirements or early termination fees.

  • Service: The plan connects up to five devices and includes unlimited monthly data and access to 4 million wifi hotspots. It provides up to 100 Mbps download speeds and includes free, self-installation.

Low-Cost Mobile Data Plans 

If you have Cox Internet, you’re also eligible to add affordable Cox Mobile data plans that you can use for online access with unlimited talk and text.

  • Pay As You Gig means you only pay for the data you use. The cost starts at $15/GB for one line, excluding taxes and fees.

  • With the Gig Unlimited plan, the more lines you add, the more you can save. The first line is $45 a month, and the cost is $30 a line for four or more lines, excluding taxes and fees.
