Through a vast network of more than 4 million U.S. hotspots, Cox Internet subscribers can find free, fast, and reliable wifi while traveling.
Whether it's a staycation or a cross-country trip, we all need to find wifi when we're away from home. We might need to check in for a flight, look for a restaurant, do a video call for work or connect with the kids at home. That means accessing wifi in public places, such as hotels, resorts, airports, cafes, beaches and theme parks.
It can be challenging to find free wifi when you need it, and when you do, it's not always fast, reliable and secure. Here are tips for finding and using wifi on the road:
Use a Free, Wifi Hotspot from Your Internet Provider
Cox, for example, offers a network of more than 4 million wifi hotspots that are available for free to Cox customers. Cox wifi hotspots provide fast, secure connections that you can help you save on cellular data usage. To locate your nearest hotspot, just input an address or ZIP code at the Cox wifi hotspots map.
Your internet provider may offer additional ways for you to connect. Cox Internet customers have free access to CableWiFi, a wireless network created by Cox, Optimum and XFINITY. You and family members can connect at the same time up to three devices per user ID on the account, and up to 10 devices per account.
Connect in Just a Few Steps
When you're ready to connect to a Cox wifi or a CableWiFi hotspot, follow these steps:
- Turn on your device's wifi and search for networks.
- Select Cox wifi or CableWiFi and launch your internet browser.
- Sign in with your Cox user ID and password. After that, your device will automatically connect to Cox or Cable WiFi for the next two years, and you won't have to sign in again.
Safety and Security When Using Wifi
Take these precautions to help ensure a secure connection when connecting to any wifi network:
- Check the website address to make sure make sure you see the lock icon and the word “secure."
- Keep your apps and devices updated to the latest version to take advantage of the latest security. Check your app store for updates and always update your devices when prompted.
- Turn off device sharing and disable the printer.
- On public wifi networks, try to avoid logging in to apps or sites that require your password and refrain from inputting credit card numbers and other personal information.
- Protect your connected devices with advanced security tools. For example, the Cox Panoramic Wifi app will alert you if you visit a malware site or are being targeted by a scammer. The app can also block unknown or potentially dangerous users from connecting to your devices.
Wifi With Peace of Mind
It's almost impossible to imagine leaving home without being able to connect with family, friends and the internet via our smartphones and other devices. Fortunately, by using wifi hotspots, you can help ensure you have peace of mind when making these virtual connections.
