Smarter Siri, New Camera Controls: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Roundup

September 13, 2024

Apple has released its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 with Apple Intelligence and the all new camera control. Read on to learn more.

Apple has unveiled its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 with Apple Intelligence and the all new camera control. Now available at Cox Mobile. Here's a look at the new and improved features of Apple's latest devices:

AI for Everyone

The biggest buzz around the iPhone 16 pro is the new Apple Intelligence, which the tech giant has dubbed "AI for the rest of us."

Apple Intelligence comes free as part of iOS 18.1. Only the latest iPhone models —  will support the new AI features.

Apple Intelligence powers things like:

  • Writing Tools: These can help generate or edit content, summarize long posts or documents, and send prioritized notifications.

  • Image Wand: This lets users turn rough sketches into fully-formed images.

  • Memory Movie: This selects the best images and videos and develops a storyline with a "narrative arc" to match them.

In addition, Apple Intelligence enables sound quality adjustment in videos with Audio Mix. Users can select from three mix types:

  • In-Frame: Captures the voices of the people in the video.

  • Studio: Makes it seem like users are recording in a professional audio booth.

  • Cinematic: Captures all voices detected and consolidates them toward the front of the screen, much like a movie.

Full ChatGPT Integration

While Apple has historically taken an in-house approach to adding functions, its latest iOS versions includes full ChatGPT integration. Users won't need an account to access these features, which include image and document understanding, and won't need to jump between apps to access ChatGPT.

If requested, Siri can send questions, documents and photos to ChatGPT, and then present the answers directly. Requests are not stored by OpenAI, and users' IP addresses are automatically obscured to ensure data privacy.

Meet the New Siri

Siri also gets an upgrade with Apple Intelligence. The virtual assistant features improved language understanding along with the ability to take action in and across apps.

According to Apple, while Siri is "aware" of users' personal information and makes suggestions based on this context, the tool doesn't collect or store any of this data.

Better Battery Life, Camera

Enhanced battery features for the iPhone 16 will power up to 27 hours of video playback — seven more hours than the iPhone 15.

The new phone supports 25W wireless charging with a new MagSafe charger with a 30W power adapter or higher — this means you can get up to a 50 percent charge in about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the two-in-one 48M Fusion camera lets users take super-high-resolution images, while the Ultra Wide camera is great for capturing close-ups or wider images. Users also get access to spatial capture, which can take photos and videos in 3D.

Enhanced Controls

Apple has also introduced two control buttons to the iPhone 16:

  • Camera Control: Located on the right-hand side of the phone, this control lets users open image options with a light press, then slide their fingers to adjust settings such as zoom, exposure or depth of field. A double-press selects another camera setting.

  • Action Button: Located on the left-hand side of the phone just above the volume controls, this lets users press and hold the button to access the actions they want, including turning on the flashlight, recording a voice memo and recognizing music.

Time to Upgrade Your Phone?

While Apple's new artificial intelligence tools, improved camera options and better battery life could inspire you to upgrade your device, it's also important to select the right mobile carrier to ensure the best experience.
