Helpful Tips on the Move to Yahoo

Details

The following table provides tips to help you with the transition to Yahoo email.

Scenario Tip
Forgotten User ID / Password
  • Before completing the move, go to the Cox email login page and click Forgot User ID? or Forgot Password.
  • After completing the move, go to Yahoo Mail, and visit recovery.yahoo.com.

Backing Up Emails

  • Backing up email before completing the transition to Yahoo Mail is not required. Your cox.net email content will be moved to Yahoo Mail upon completing the transition steps.
  • If you do not plan to move to Yahoo, you must move all your emails and folders to a new provider or back up your information before the migration date or they will be deleted.

Moving to another provider

If you choose any provider other than Yahoo, you will need to set up a new email address with that provider.

  • You will not be able to keep your Cox.net email address with providers other than Yahoo.
  • Once set up, you can forward your existing email account contents to the new provider. This must be completed before your account has been moved to Yahoo Mail.
Important! You may be deleting emails, folders, files, and contacts as a part of the move to another provider. Confirm all processes with the new provider beforehand to assure information is not lost.

Exporting contacts, calendars, and emails to a of my choice after moving to Yahoo Mail

Refer to Transfer emails and contacts between accounts.

Migrating my email content to Yahoo after I moved my contacts, calendars, and emails to other providers

Unless you delete it before the transition, your Cox.net email address and content will be available at Yahoo, until 365 days after you have completed the steps for the move.

  • For the best experience, we would recommend completing the move to Yahoo before considering other options.
  • If you open a different email account with a different provider. Please visit the selected provider’s support pages to confirm specifics.

Add a new email account

As of August 15, 2019, we no longer offer the ability for new and existing Cox Internet customers to create new Cox Email accounts.

While this is not needed to access your transitioned email, if you wish to create an entirely new standalone Yahoo account, not associated with your Cox information, you can do so at login.yahoo.com by clicking Create an Account.

Access to the cox.net email address if I choose to discontinue services with Cox

After the move to Yahoo Mail is complete, and you accept their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, your cox.net email address will be supported by Yahoo and will be accessible to you even if you choose to discontinue service with Cox.

I received a suspicious email

Suspicious emails are an unfortunate reality of the modern world. Cox and Yahoo does everything in its power to prevent spam and suspicious emails from getting to users, but users of any email service must remain vigilant and alert.
