Removing Attachments in Cox Webmail

Details

In order to complete the transition of your Cox Email account to Yahoo, email attachments with large file sizes must first be removed from your Inbox. Additionally, emails containing attachments with an .tnef or .dat extension cannot be migrated and must be removed.


To begin, log in to Webmail and then follow the steps the steps below.

Use these steps to remove emails with large attachments.

  1. Click the first folder in your inbox.
  2. Click the "..." button .
  3. Select Sort, then By size, and by descending order.

    Note: Webmail folders are sorted in descending order by default.

Result: This will show you the emails with the largest attachments at the top.

Select the first email listed.

In the email, click Attachment(s) next to the paper clip icon. This will show you more information about the attachment.

To view the file size of the attachment click Details, General, then Size.

If you want to keep the attachment, click the download icon at the top of the page.

Note: Do not download any items from an unknown sender or suspicious content.

Click the X at the top right of your screen to close the view.

Note: If you're downloading multiple emails in the same email, ensure that you download or remove all of them.

Once the attachment is deleted, click the Trash icon to delete the entire email.

Click Back to return to the folder view. Repeat Steps 1 - 7 above until all of an attachments have been downloaded or deleted.

Navigate to the Trash folder. Click ... , then Select All Messages. Finally, click the Trash icon and select Delete.

Removing TNEF or DAT Attachments

Use these steps to remove emails with .TNEF or .DAT attachments.

In the search bar, search .TNEF or .DAT then select the first the first email listed.

Click Attachment(s) next to the paper clip icon. This will display more information about the attachment, including file size.

Note: Cox recommends removing any email attachment larger than 40 megabytes in size.

Download the file by clicking the download icon at the top right of the page.


Note: Do not download any items from unknown senders or if the email content seems suspicious.

Click the X at the top right of the screen to leave the attachment view. If you have multiple attachments in the same email, verify that all emails have been reviewed.

Click Back to return to your email folder view.

Select the next email and repeat Steps 1 - 5 above until you have downloaded or deleted all .tnef and .dat files. When all attachments have been downloaded from each email, delete the email.

After all files have been deleted, click Trash and complete the following.

  • Click the ... icon, then click Select All Messages.
  • Click the Trash Can Delete icon. When asked "Do you want to permanently delete this mail?" Click the Delete button.


Your email address will be transitioned to Yahoo Mail within a few days once your TNEF files have been removed. If you do not remove the large attachments by the move date, your email will be transitioned without these files since they are above the attachment size allowed by both Cox and Yahoo Mail and will be deleted.
