One or More Devices for a Router Gateway

Details

Assign a static IP address to one or more devices using a routed gateway while retaining the functionality of the gateway. The static IP address is assigned to the WAN interface of the Cox gateway and that address is typically translated to private IP addresses using Network Address Translation (NAT).

To configure a static IP on the WAN interface of the Technicolor 4131, refer to Configuring a Static IP on the WAN Interface of the Technicolor 4131.

The static IP address can also be assigned to one or more of the following devices.

  • Web server
  • Mail server
  • Point of sale system
  • Security camera

The ports used by these devices are forwarded (using port forwarding) to the device. For example, a mail server may have port 25, used for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, forwarded from the Cox gateway to the server.
