Troubleshooting Contour Voice Remote

Solution

Use the following process to troubleshoot the Cox Voice remote.

Check Remote Battery

  1. For the Contour Voice Remote XR11or Contour Remote, press and hold the Setup button on the remote for three seconds, until the red LED on the remote turns green.

    Note: The battery check is not available with the Contour Voice Remote XR15.

  2. Enter 9-9-9.

    Result: The remote blinks to indicate battery status.
     
  3. Use the following table to determine if the batteries need to be replaced.

Remote Completely Non-Responsive

If the remote does not work at all after checking for batteries, perform a Factory Reset as follows or continue to the other options below.

  1. Perform one of the following based on the type of remote you have. Refer to Remote Control User Guides to identify your remote.
    1. For the New Contour Voice Remote, press and hold the A and D buttons together on the remote until the red LED on the remote turns green.
    2. For the Contour Voice Remote or Contour Remote, press and hold the Setup button on the remote until the red LED on the remote turns green.
  2. Enter 9-8-1.
  3. Pair the remote to the receiver, then re-test remote function.

Not controlling TV or audio device

TVs and audio devices are controlled with IR only and always require line-of-sight. First ensure there is direct line-of-sight between the remote and the device.

  1. Ensure the remote is programmed for the device.
  2. Check the remote battery status.
  3. Verify the device is connected to power, and the power strip or switched outlet is on, if applicable.

TV audio control not responding to long presses

  • Some IR codes only partially work for a TV.
  • Try a different code if the volume control only changes one step at a time, or does not slide up or down with long presses of the volume buttons.

Freezing, latency, or delay of button presses to receiver

A brief delay or latency of a few seconds is within normal operation. Do not continually re-pair, reprogram, or program multiple remotes to the same receiver. This can increase the delay or stop the receiver from reading commands. 

  1. Press the CONTOUR button, and note the color of the LED on the remote.
    • If LED blinks red, pair the remote to the receiver, then retest remote function.
    • If LED blinks green, or green then red, unpair the remote and receiver, then continue troubleshooting.
  2. Press the CONTOUR button and verify the LED blinks red, indicating IR mode. Do one of the following.
    • If LED blinks only red, continue to the next step.
    • If LED blinks green, or green then red, the remote is still paired with the receiver. Ensure the remote is unpaired before continuing.
  3. Press the CONTOUR, Channel Up, or Channel Down button to test that the remote works in IR mode.
    • If the remote works in IR mode, pair the remote with the receiver again, then go to step 5.
    • If the remote does not work in IR mode, continue to the next step.
  4. Perform an unpair of the remote as follows.
    1. Perform one of the following based on the type of remote you have. Refer to Remote Control User Guides to identify your remote.
      1. For the New Contour Voice Remote, press and hold the A and D buttons together on the remote until the red LED on the remote turns green.
      2. For the Contour Voice Remote or Contour Remote, press and hold the Setup button on the remote until the red LED on the remote turns green
    2. Enter 9-8-1.
  5. Pair the remote to the receiver, then re-test the function of the remote.
