Cox Charities 

Cox Charities is the charitable giving arm of Cox Virginia. We help build a better future for the next generation by giving back to the communities where we live and work.

Community Grants are 100% employee funded. The amount employees donate each year is the amount we're able to give back to community organizations through grants. Each year, nonprofits who are building a better future apply for grants. The pool of applicants is narrowed down by employees on the Cox Charities Council, and then all employees get a chance to vote on the finalists.

Sponsorships are awarded on a case-by-case basis to nonprofit organizations addressing the critical needs of our community, in the following areas: STEAM, Inclusion & Diversity, and Sustainability. Cox only considers sponsorship requests from organizations that provide services in Cox Communications service areas.

Cox Education Heroes 

Cox Virginia’s Education Heroes program aims to recognize teachers who go above and beyond for their students.  

We know that every day, Virginia educators show up for our children and young adults. They work tirelessly to plan, teach, nurture our future community leaders, future elected officials and future workforce.  

The program began during the pandemic to brighten our community during dark times. Heroes of Distance Learning celebrated the immense impact of our teachers. As students began returning to the classroom, the name evolved but the essence remains: while navigating all that comes with teaching in this new normal, educators have proven themselves to be Superheroes, again and again.

    Timing:  

Nominations will be open March 27 - April 10, 2023. Education Heroes will be announced during Teacher Appreciation Week.

    Who is eligible?  

K-12 private or public-school teachers from schools within our Virginia service area. Art, Music, Drama, Gym etc. teachers qualify. Teachers named Education Heroes in 2022 are not eligible to win in 2023.  

    Who selected the 10 Heroes? 

Cox employees based in Virginia review applications and vote to select the recipients.  

    What is the prize?  

Cox Education Heroes receive $1,000 for their classroom. The $1,000 grant will be awarded on behalf of the teacher to the school's PTA/PTSA/PTO or directly to the school where possible. Funds must benefit the teacher's classroom (e.g. supplies, field trips, technology, etc.).
