Setting Up MalBlock DNS Security Web Filters

Solution

MalBlock DNS Security Premium provides the tools that allow you to either block or allow access to websites on the internet for your user groups.

You can manage the following content with Web Filters.

  • Block or allow sites for a user group by category
  • Assign a default filter category to a website to block a category of sites for the entire group
  • Create a custom filter for a category
  • Create custom schedules for your web filters


Note: Blocking content by category is available with Premium service only. To learn more about the Premium service options, see Cox Business Essential Security.
 

Complete the following steps to modify the web filter categories for a user group.

Log in to MalBlock DNS Security, see Logging in to MalBlock DNS Security.

From the MalBlock dashboard, click the Settings tab, select Protection Preferences.

From the Protection Preferences page in the Groups section, click on the group to add or adjust a protection level.

Note: If you have not set up your user groups, see Setting Up MalBlock DNS User Groups.

You have the option to choose between two different levels of protection.

  • Predefined Protection - A set of website categories that are grouped together by levels
  • Custom Protection - Choose just the website categories you want to block

From the Protection Level section, complete the steps outlined in the table for either a predefined category or custom protection level.
 

If choosing...Then complete these steps...
Predefined ProtectionClick on your choice of a predefined protection of None, Light, Medium, or Strict to adjust the protected categories.

Custom Protection
  1. Click Custom.
  2. Locate a category by either of the following methods.
    • In the Find Category search field, enter a specific category to turn a protection category on or off, or
    • scroll through the full list of categories.
  3. Next to the category, click the green checkmark to disable or the red circle to enable the category.

  4. There is also the option to click Block All or Allow All for all of the categories on the list.

    Note: If Block All is checked, Content Restriction is not available.

Do you want to set up a schedule for the restrictions you have selected?

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
